Commissioned art for the lobby of the JW Marriott Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which has a design theme that honors the six sister cities of Grand Rapids, from Japan to Italy to Ghana. This scene is a view towards the Grand River and downtown bridges as seen from inside the lobby of this modern, 23-story glass-enclosed hotel, which opened in 2007.
All the 3D sculptures are my original origami designs including the Steelcase furniture, wooden wall sculpture, the concierge, guests, and the hotel's general manager George Aquino.
Commissioned by Aquino and the JW Marriott Hotel in 2008. Installed in 2009 over the concierge desk in the lobby.
In 2007, general manager George Aquino commissioned me to make five large artworks celebrating Grand Rapids and its sister cities. Look for these in the Founder's Suite on the 23rd floor and in meeting rooms. Each are 40" x 48".
616 (Six one six) is the telephone area code for Grand Rapids, Michigan. At the JW Marriott Hotel in Grand Rapids, visitors can see six sister cities from around the world - through one destination (GRR).
